Month Theme: Explosion

Topic: Pentecost I

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:14-41

Main Text:
Acts 2:1
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

The Holy Ghost fell on the disciples on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-2). The word Pentecost is the Greek word ‘pentēkostē’ which means “fiftieth”. The feast of Pentecost is also called the feast of harvest, the day of the first fruits and the feast of weeks. The feast of Pentecost represented the harvest of souls that would follow the coming of the Holy Ghost.

When the Holy Ghost fell on the disciples, they harvested about 3,000 after preaching just one sermon in the power of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:37-38, 41). The spiritual significance of harvest is threefold:
1. Refreshing
Refreshing means recovery of breath, revival. A harvest signals the return of life and hope (Acts 3:19).
2. Restoration
The seed that is buried in the ground is restored manifold during the harvest (John 12:23).
3. Reward
A harvest is a reward of our labour (Psalm 126:5-6).

“Fifty” which is a space of time, produces a harvest. This is what Pentecost is all about. When we wait upon the Lord for the fullness of time we receive an explosion of harvest. Fifty implies a long wait but the Holy Ghost is eternal and fifty days is nothing to Him. Tarrying long leads to a large harvest.

Prayer: Pray for an increased harvest of souls in the Body of Christ this year.
