Month Theme: Reaping in the Jubilee
Topic: The Power of the Gospel
Scripture Reading: Acts 13:1-12; Luke 4:16-21
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The apostle Paul used the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to free Sergius Paulus the proconsul of Paphos from the wickedness of Barjesus, the sorcerer (Acts 13:6-12). The deputy needed a Jubilee or release from the hold of the wicked sorcerer.
Three things happened when the apostle Paul freed the deputy from the wickedness of the sorcerer:
1. Found - Paul found the sorcerer. The sorcerer was very close to Sergius Paulus, but he did not know the sorcerer was against his salvation. Paul exposed the sorcerer.
2. Filled - Paul was filled with the Holy Ghost. Sergius Paulus was the proconsul; he was a high ranking man, yet was under the sorcerer's spell. Paul shifted from physical power to spiritual power to liberate the man. If we will bring deliverance to many, we should depend on the Holy Ghost.
3. Fire - Paul fired the Word of God at the sorcerer. The result was temporal blindness for the sorcerer.
The forces of darkness have entrenched themselves in many families and communities around the world. The world in lying in darkness (1 John 5:19). In this season of the Jubilee, believers should use the power of the Gospel to free people from the controlling powers of witchcraft. We must execute the mission of loosening the bands of wickedness.
Prayer: pray for grace to preach the Gospel of Christ.
