Month Theme: Reaping in the Jubilee
Topic: Deal Thy Bread to the Hungry
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 58:1-12; Luke 4:16-21
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The hungry are those who cannot feed themselves. The hungry are weak and sick. Sometimes, they die. There is widespread hunger around the world. Those who have food are required to share their provisions with those who don’t have any. Apart from physical bread, we are mandated to share the spiritual bread of the Word of God with the world.
It is an act of righteousness to share our food with the poor during the Jubilee. God rewards people who remember the poor when they have food to eat. Boaz showed great kindness towards Ruth and directed his reapers to intentionally leave some of the harvest for her to glean (Ruth 2:14-16). This act of righteousness paved the way for him to marry Ruth and become part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Famine is widespread around the world. Wars have displaced many people and rendered them malnourished. The Church must be the answer to the times we live in. We cannot be poor and needy if we want to provide solutions to the needs of a dying world. In the Jubilee, God will bless the Body of Christ enough for us to be a blessing to the world.
Prayer: Pray and ask God to elevate you to the place of feeding many who are hungry.
